It’s Been Too Long

Good Grief… it’s been like 10 months since I added anything to this. How lame am I? (Responses on a postcard, please, to…)
So what’s happened in the last almost-year? I had hernia surgery… a decent winter/spring/summer… a move to Orlando, a new job, and a new apartment. Plenty going on.
My brother & I also worked on a system installation for a friend’s uncle’s church, in Strasburg… I designed the thing, & was able to join them on the install for a weekend. Good stuff.
Anyhow. Maybe I can get back in the habit - my wife thinks I should!

Catching Up

Wow… it’s been almost a month since I posted. Sorry - between moving, Ernesto, side projects and trying to unpack more boxes, we’ve had little time for much else.

There are still plenty of boxes in our spare room. Chances are they’ll be there until we absolutely need to move them (i.e. guests), given the level of activity around here.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been picking up some graphic work at the hotel… the proceeds from that have allowed us to improve our computing situation. Lindsay now has her own laptop - a Gateway laptop-tablet convertible that’s excellent for her editing jobs she does occasionally for Bible Visuals. I have a nice big 21″ widescreen monitor, which makes working in Photoshop a lot easier with more of the image visible (& uncovered by palettes). The dual-screen setup rocks too - iTunes, Outlook etc are off to one side.

Besides that, we added a 200Gb SATA drive (since we’re down to 5Gb free on the original drive, which isn’t much when working with big images), and a Graphire4 graphics tablet for more natural strokes than the trackball allows. In short - Work just got a lot easier!

Also replaced… my Treo 650 drowned a week and a half ago in a rather embarassing fashion… that too got replaced by a 700w. This time it’s on our own family plan rather than the company’s line - so no more worries about using company minutes. And EVDO is awesome!

I go in for surgery on a hernia on Friday… more on that (and my recovery) over the weekend. Time to get caught up with some people I owe emails…

Changes

We’ve been back for a week now… over a week, actually. And as you’re no doubt aware we moved with the extra time we didn’t need off.

Not too much to report tonight… we’re still tired, still working, still trying to establish a rhythm again… and the cats need their litterbox cleaned out. Sorry! Got to run…

Back Home

We’re back at last… Lindsay’s at work, I’m at home getting ready to start clearing up after our dash out… and we may be moving in the next few days. More on that as it happens.

No real effects from the storm here… just a lot of rain, and some frustrated tourists. It happens every year, folks!

So that’s it for Ernesto - wonder when the next one will arrive?

MM 93

Florida Turnpike, mile marker 93:

As predicted, this is turning out to be a long day…
At 4:30am we were up to give the cats their tranquilizers. Both had managed to climb into (not under) the boxspring of our bed overnight, making handling quite interesting. Amber took hers readily enough; Shadow pulled the feline equivalent of the under-the-tongue trick, and deposited his on the floor. (We found it an hour later, while wondering why he wasn’t staggering around like a drunk as Amber was.)

Got on the road by 6:30, having filled the Jeep & 3 5-gal gas cans just in case. We heard on the radio just before getting on the Turnpike that our onramp was blocked by an accident, so a 20 mile detour ensued.

About 40 minutes ago Shadow woke up & started complaining loudly about the size of his carrier, lack of food, water & entertainment options, etc; so L & I stopped to pick up some Benadryl (having heard that low doses can be used to keep cats quiet). Long story short - I’m now covered in cat drool, having found out that Benadryl tablets are quite bitter when inadvertently chewed instead of swallowed. Who knew. (Wouldn’t have expected that much drool, either - 1/2 cup at least.)

MM 58.. Time to see if the cat’s asleep yet…..

…nope.
